Privacy Policy

Hesychia Studios is the studio name of Lukas Peter Genis, a sole trader in Victoria, Australia (ABN 60 722 726 498). This policy explains how we handle information across our apps (such as spudnote, empt, ChopSnip, Fwinkle, Ramu Mart, and Pinchkins), our writing room TypeSesame, and this website, hesychia.studio. Our apps are built to keep your data on your own devices, and we collect as little as we can. TypeSesame is a website with an optional account, so it works a little differently; it has its own section below.
- Your content stays on your device and, for spudnote, empt and our games’ progress (Fwinkle, Ramu Mart and Pinchkins), in your own private iCloud. We can’t read it.
- Our directly-downloaded Mac app makes no network connection at all; there’s nothing for it to send, and nothing leaves your device.
- We don’t use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
- We don’t sell your data, ever.
- We only see the little Apple shares with any developer, plus anything you send us directly.
- TypeSesame is the exception: what you type there is sent, as you write, to a third-party model that returns only numbers; signed out nothing is stored, and signed in your memories and email are stored by us so you can come back to them.
Your content stays with you
What you write in spudnote and empt (and anything in it) is stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device storage. If you’re signed in to iCloud, it syncs through your own private iCloud database using Apple’s CloudKit. That sync is between you and Apple: we have no access to your iCloud contents and cannot read it.
In our games (Fwinkle, Ramu Mart and Pinchkins), your progress is kept on your device and, if you’re signed in to iCloud, synced through your own iCloud account. We can’t see it.
In our directly-downloaded Mac app, the videos and audio you edit, the captions it generates, and your projects stay in ordinary files on your Mac, in places you choose (projects save under your Documents folder). Captions are transcribed on your own device, so your footage and audio never leave your Mac, and it doesn’t use iCloud or any account.
No account with us
Our App Store and Mac apps don’t ask you to create an account with Hesychia Studios, hand us an email address, or sign in to us. Any cross-device sync uses your existing Apple ID and iCloud, not a login of ours. TypeSesame is the one place you can sign in to us, by email, and only if you choose to keep memories there (see below).
App analytics & crash reports
We don’t embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in our apps. If you’ve turned on “Share with App Developers” in your Apple device settings, Apple may give us aggregated, anonymised statistics and crash logs through App Store Connect for our App Store apps. This helps us fix bugs and understand roughly which features get used. It isn’t tied to your identity, and we can’t use it to identify you. You can turn this off any time in your device settings.
Our directly downloaded Mac app goes further: it contains no analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting of any kind, and makes no network connections; there’s nothing for it to send, and no “check for updates” that phones home.
Purchases & subscriptions
In our App Store apps, any paid features or subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment card details. Apple provides us with anonymised, aggregated sales and subscription reports. You can manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store account settings; billing and refunds are handled by Apple under their terms.
TypeSesame’s memories subscription is sold on the web through Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe’s own payment page and never reach us; we receive a customer reference, the subscription’s status, and the email address you used. You can see invoices, change your card, or cancel from account inside TypeSesame, which opens Stripe’s customer portal.
TypeSesame
TypeSesame is a writing room on the web: the page changes colour, light, sound and typesetting to match the feeling of what you’re writing. To do that, as you write, the current line and some of the text around it are sent to TypeSafe AI’s Jev model and judged. Jev returns only numbers (how present each feeling is, how pleasant, how activated); it produces no text and never writes back to you. TypeSafe’s terms state that they don’t train on the text they’re sent. The request goes through our server, which adds no identity to it beyond what any web request carries.
Signed out, nothing you type is stored. The text passes through for judgment and is not kept by us; our server holds a short-lived cache of recent judgments (a few minutes, in memory) so a repeated pause isn’t judged twice.
Signed in (an email address and a one-time code; no passwords), your pages are kept as memories: the text, the state each line was typeset in, the hour on the room’s clock, and a small numeric profile of its feeling. These are stored in our database on Cloudflare and are yours to reopen, search, filter, and delete. We don’t read them except as needed to run the service or if you ask us to. Sign-in letters are sent through Resend. One session cookie keeps you signed in; there are no advertising cookies or third-party trackers.
We also keep a count of how many judgments an account or address asks for in a day, to keep the service fair.
Deleting and how long we keep things. Erase everything in account deletes your memories, your account, and your subscription at Stripe. Cancelling a subscription doesn’t delete anything; your memories wait for whenever you return. An address that signs in but never subscribes is removed automatically after seven days. Judgments are cached for a few minutes; sign-in codes expire after fifteen minutes; a session lasts thirty days. Stripe keeps invoice records for as long as tax law requires; Cloudflare and Resend may keep standard technical logs for a limited time.
Security. Everything travels over HTTPS. There are no passwords to steal: sign-in codes are one-time, stored only as hashes, and sessions are signed. Memories are encrypted at rest by our database provider, but they are not end-to-end encrypted: technically we could read them, and we don’t, except as needed to run the service or if you ask us to. Please write accordingly. If an eligible data breach ever affected you, we’d notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.
Where your information goes. Our providers run on infrastructure outside Australia, mostly in the United States: Cloudflare (our database and hosting), TypeSafe AI (judging), Stripe (payments), and Resend (letters). By keeping memories in TypeSesame you agree to your information being stored and processed there, under those providers’ own safeguards.
This website
hesychia.studio is a simple static site hosted on Cloudflare. We don’t set advertising cookies or run third-party trackers on it. As with any website, our host may process standard technical server logs (such as IP addresses and requests) to deliver and secure the site. The site also hosts our free Mac app installer, served from Cloudflare’s storage; downloading needs no account and sets no tracking, and the same standard server logs apply.
If you contact us
If you email us (for example at hello@hesychia.studio), we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you and to keep a record of our correspondence.
Children
Our apps aren’t directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. Fwinkle, Ramu Mart and Pinchkins are made for all ages; they collect no personal information from anyone, children included.
Who we share information with
We don’t sell or rent personal information. The limited processing we rely on happens through trusted providers that run parts of our service: Apple (App Store, iCloud/CloudKit, developer analytics) and Cloudflare (website hosting). For TypeSesame, also TypeSafe AI (judging the feeling of what you write), Stripe (payments), and Resend (sign-in letters). Your content stored in iCloud is also governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
Your rights & choices
Because your content stays on your device and in your own iCloud, you stay in control: delete a note in the app, or manage and delete iCloud data in your device settings. You can opt out of sharing analytics with developers in your device settings at any time. In TypeSesame, your memories, email address and subscription are under account: change your address, or erase everything, yourself. For anything else we hold directly, such as email correspondence, you can ask us to access, correct, or delete it by emailing hello@hesychia.studio.
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you have a privacy concern, please contact us first so we can put it right. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our apps evolve. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date above, and note anything significant on this page.
